Abort - To end an angle, kill a gimmick suddenly.

 

Agent - Former wrestler, who works as a producer, in creative, or as a developmental Trainer.

 

Alignment - When a group of wrestlers join forces, usually face or heel factions.

 

Angle - The beginning of a storyline.

 

Apter Mag - Kayfabe magazine.

 

Babyface - Good guy, often shortened to simply ''Face''.

 

Beat Down - When a star is assaulted by a number of assailants.

 

Blading - To purposefully cut yourself during a match.

 

Blind Tag - Heel move, when a tag team swaps places without making a tag, or unseen by the referee.

 

Blow Off - End of a feud.

 

Blow Up - To become exhausted during a match.

 

Book - To arrange matches.

 

Booker - Responsible for arranging match cards, and deciding the outcomes of matches.

 

Botch - Mistake.

 

Broadway - Time limit draw.

 

Burial - When a wrestler falls out of favour with the office, they usually put them on a losing streak.

 

Bump - To fall.

 

Business - Name used for professional wrestling.

 

Bust Open - To bleed.

 

Call - To tell your opponent the next move you intend to do.

 

Card - Line up of matches.

 

Cheap Heat - To get a negative reaction easily, IE insulting the town you are in.

 

Cheap Pop - To get easy crowd approval, IE high fiving people in the crowd, or name checking the town you are in.

 

Cheap Shot - Dirty move to get the upper hand in a match, IE to use a weapon.

 

Claret - Blood.

 

Clean Finish - 1 2 3 end to a match, with no inteference or cheating.

 

Closet Champion - A champion that avoids defending their gold.

 

Colour - Large amount of blood.

 

Crimson Mask - When a face is covered in blood.

 

Cross-Promotion - When two promotions join forces, to host a show.

 

Dark Match - Non televised match.

 

Deadweight - A wrestler who has to be carried through a match. Sometimes done intentionally to make an opponent look bad.

 

Dirt Sheet - Inside newsletter or website.

 

Diva - WWE Female talent.

 

Double Team - Two on one move.

 

Double Turn - When two stars involved in a feud switch from face to heel, swapping the good guy / bad guy roles.

 

Draw - A popular wrestler with fans.

 

Drop - To lose a title.

 

Dusty Finish - A face win, which is changed after the bell, IE Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole at Mania 27.

 

Enforcer - Bodyguard, or outside official.

 

Fall - End of a match.

 

False Comeback - Brief fightback before succumbing to a finisher.

 

False Finish - Close count in a pin attempt.

 

Finish - The planned result of a match.

 

Finisher - A wrestlers signature move.

 

Five Moves Of Doom - A combination of moves, favoured by a particular wrestler.

 

Freebird Rule - When a Tag Team title is defended on an alternating basis by 3 or more members of a team, not just the official title holders.

 

Future Endeavoured - To be released by WWE.

 

Gas - Steroids.

 

Gig - Blade, used to cut to aid bleeding.

 

Gimmick - Character portrayed by a wrestler.

 

Go Home - The closing moments of a match.

 

Gold - Title.

 

Go Over - To win a match.

 

Green - Inexperienced.

 

Gusher - A deep cut, that squirts blood, usually accidental.

 

Hangman - When a neck is caught between the top and middle rope.

 

Hardway - Accidentally cut open.

 

Head Drop - Accidentally dropping your opponent on his head.

 

Heel - Bad guy.

 

Highspot - Top rove move, or a high impact move.

 

Hooker - Legitimate mat wrestler.

 

Hotshot - Rushed end to a feud, on TV instead of PPV, IE if a wrestler decided to quit a promotion whilst holding a title, they could drop the gold earlier than planned.

 

Hot Tag - When a face gets a tag after being in the ring for a long time.

 

House Show - Live, usually untelevised event.

 

Interference - Someone who is not involved in a match, helping one of the participants.

 

Invasion Storyline - When non employed stars, appear at another company's show.

 

IPPV - Internet Pay Per View.

 

IWC - Internet Wrestling Community.

 

Jobber - Enhancement talent, used to make bigger stars look as good possible, Will usually lose their matches.

 

Juice - Double meaning, steroids, or to bleed.

 

Jump Ship - To leave one promotion, and join another.

 

Kayfabe - Storyline, to maintain character.

 

Kip-Up - To jump from a laying position, onto your feet.

 

Lock Up - Grapple at the start of a match.

 

Lumberjack - Wrestler outside of a match, who throws wrestlers back in the ring, to keep the action going.

 

Lumberjill - Female version of the above.

 

Main Eventer - Top level performer.

 

Mark - Paying fan, or someone who believes the in ring action is real. Can also mean bias towards a particular wrestler or promotion. Is also used as a derogatory term.

 

Marking Out - Strong reaction to an event, despite the knowledge it is pre arranged.

 

Mid-Carder - Mid level talent.

 

Missed Spot / Blown Spot - Mistake.

 

Money Match - Highly promoted match.

 

Mouthpiece - Manager who does all the promo's for their talent.

 

Muta Scale - Measure of blood lost during a match.

 

Near-Fall - Close pin attempt.

 

No-Sell - To show no reaction to an opponents moves, can be used to show toughness, or to humiliate an opponent.

 

No-Show - To fail to attend an event.

 

Number One Contender - Next in line for a title shot.

 

Over - Popular wrestler with fans.

 

Over-Sell - To over react to an opponents moves.

 

Paper - To give out free tickets to make an event look more popular.

 

Paper Champion - Weak champion.

 

Parts Unknown - Fictional home town.

 

PC - Performance Center, WWE training center, gym and school.

 

Plant - Wrestler who poses as a fan.

 

Potato - Real punch.

 

Powdering - Forcefully removing someone from the ring.

 

PPV - Pay Per View.

 

Program - Series of matches between wrestlers.

 

Promo - Interview.

 

Put Over - When a big name loses to allow a newer talent get a push up the roster.

 

Push - To receive a promotion in your position on the roster.

 

Rasslin' (Also Wrasslin') - Insulting term used by the media, when talking about the sport.

 

Release - When a wrestler is sacked.

 

Rematch (Or Return) Clause - When a former champion has a rematch after losing their title.

 

Rest Hold - Move used to allow the competitors to recooperate.

 

Rib - Practical joke.

 

Ribber - The person doing the practical joke.

 

Ring General - Experienced wrestler.

 

Ring Psychology - Telling a story, to get the crowd involved.

 

Ring Rat - Groupie, or hanger on who wants to get to know the talent, If you know what I mean...

 

Ring Rust - When a wrestler has been injured for a long time, they can make mistakes, such as mis-timed moves.

 

Roids - Steroids.

 

Run-In - Interference.

 

Rushed Finish - When a match is quickly ended, IE when one of the talent involved gets injured.

 

Sandbag - To not cooperate with your rival, making the moves harder for them to complete.

 

School - To teach.

 

Screwjob - To intentially change the planned result of a match, without informing one of the competitors.

 

Segment - Non wrestling part of a show.

 

Sell - To react to a move.

 

Show - Wrestling event.

 

Shoot - Real event, or truthful interview.

 

Shot - An event a wrestler is booked to appear at.

 

Shootfighting - To make a match look like a real fight.

 

Signature Move - Finisher, a wrestlers prefered move.

 

Slow Burn - A match or story line that develops over a long period of time.

 

Smark - Internet term, meaning ''Smart Mark'', someone who enjoys wrestling, despite knowing it is scripted.

 

Smart - Someone with inside information.

 

Sports Entertainment - WWE term, trying to differentiate itself from other wrestling groups.

 

Spot - Planned move.

 

Spot Monkey - A wrestler who relies on big moves.

 

Squash - One sided match.

 

Stable - Group of wrestlers.

 

Stiff - Forceful attack from a wrestler.

 

Stooge - Boss's sidekick.

 

Strap - Title.

 

Strong Style - Japanese Style wrestling.

 

Superhuman Comeback - When a wrestler comes back from a seemingly impossible position to get a win, usually a period of no selling, followed by a big finishing move.

 

Supershow - PPV.

 

Superstar - WWE wrestler.

 

Suplex - Wrestling move.

 

Swerve - Sudden change in a storyline.

 

Tag Team - Pair of wrestlers who work together.

 

Take Down - Move which gets your opponent onto the mat.

 

Talent - Wrestlers.

 

Talent Relations - Responsible for talent, hiring / firing etc.

 

Tap Out - To give up a match.

 

Three Count - The end of a match.

 

Total Package - Highly skilled wrestler.

 

TitanTron (Or Tron) - Large screen in an arena.

 

Trachoma - Eye disease caused by ring dust and sweat, common problem for wrestlers.

 

Transitional champion - Temporary champion.

 

Turn - When a good guy turns bad or vice versa.

 

Tweener - Ambiguous wrestler, could be face or heel.

 

Two-And-A-Half Count - Close count.

 

Undercard - Matches held before the main event.

 

Underrated - Wrestler who deserves a higher billing then they receive.

 

Unification - Combining two titles.

 

Upset - Underdog victory.

 

Vacated - To give up a title, without being beaten.

 

Valet - Female manager.

 

Vanilla Midget - Good wrestlers, but are too small to lead a promotion (In the opinion of Kevin Nash).

 

Vignette - Footage to introduce a new star.

 

Visionary Fall - A succesful pinfall or submission which is unseen by a referee.

 

What (interjection) - Pause in a promo.

 

White Heat - When a heel is so hated that they become attacked by fans.

 

Work - A booked event. Or to work a part of a body IE Knees on a big man.

 

Worker - A wrestling talent.

 

Worked shoot - A scripted interview made to look real.

 

Workrate - How hard a wrestler works during a match.

 

Wrestler's Court - WWE locker room punishment, was headed by The Undertaker and JBL, when a wrestler has broken a rule or locker room etiquette, they will face ''Wrestler's Court'' and will suffer a consequence, such as pranking, or be made to pay for travel expenses etc.
